I spend alot of time in workout clothes and I don’t see anything wrong with that. Why? Because I like my workout wear and feel good in what I have, only buying pieces that fit me and flatter me. I also feel really good after I have worked out, and like to use enclothed cognition to my advantage!
If I stay in athletic wear while running errands or having a casual meeting, it’s no problem, because you don’t have to be dressed “up” to look good! If what you’re wearing makes you feel bad, that’s when you have a problem.
I have a “uniform” each season. (Currently, it’s jeans-sweaters-booties with gold jewelry.) This doesn’t mean I can’t change it up, but it sure makes things easier when life gets busy and I don’t want to think too much about what I’m wearing.
A style uniform can give you wardrobe freedom by reducing decision fatigue and helps you wind up with a closet full of clothes you actually want to wear.
You can do this by planning ahead and shopping for a few new things that fit into your planned uniform each season. Your morning self will thank you! This season, I was all set with jeans so I’ve added a new belt, a pair of booties, and two sweaters.
I have “first meeting” outfits. Inspired by my years of dating when I had a “first date” outfit at the ready, I now have “first meeting” outfits. These outfits should be made up of clothing that fits you perfectly, flatters you, and makes you feel confident and appropriately dressed for the situation at hand.
My “first date” outfit was always a great pair of jeans, my favorite black blouse that had a touch of lace, a heeled shoe and some simple jewelry. It was made up of basic but high quality pieces that made me feel good and confident in an otherwise nerve-wracking situation!
For you, this might be a comfortable dress with high boots for work or a super flattering pair of jeans and sweater for a weekend brunch. Maybe it’s a cute shacket with leggings for your kid’s soccer game. Remember, you don’t have to be dressed “up” to look great!
Do YOU have a closet full of clothes but NOTHING to wear?
If so, I’m guessing you are frustrated by spending each morning weeding through all of the clothes you don’t wear, don’t like, don’t fit, or just no longer reflect who you are.
Maybe you keep thinking that if you stop by TJ Maxx and get something new, you’ll have more to wear. But typically the opposite is true. Adding random pieces to your wardrobe without intention just adds to the clutter in your closet (and the clutter you feel in your mind!)
If you want getting dressed in the morning to be easier, you must start by letting go of all of the clothes that no longer fit you, flatter you, or make you feel fabulous.
It’s counterintuitive, I know.
But - if you’re honest, aren’t you wearing about 20% of your clothes, 80% of the time anyway?
Mmmmhmmmm.

If you’ve ever wanted to work with me but time or money was an obstacle, my online course is for you.
Over the last 15 years, I have worked with hundreds of women. And no matter their shape, size or age, when they came to me their struggles were universal:
They gained weight and their clothes didn’t fit.
It didn’t matter if they were a size 0 or 12 or 22 – when their clothes didn’t fit and their bodies didn’t feel like their own, confidence waned.
They had closets full of clothes, but nothing to wear.
They spent their mornings weeding through packed closets only to wear the same few pieces over and over.
They were stuck in a style rut.
Bored to tears with the same old, same old, these women did not feel modern and fresh – in fact they felt just the opposite. They didn’t know where to shop or what to buy to flatter their body types.
Does any of this sound familiar to you?
(It sucks, doesn’t it?!?!)
Well, after years of addressing these issues over and over again with my clients individually, I have created an online masterclass to share my stylist secrets with a larger audience, and at a much lower cost than working with me one-on-one.
Ageless Style: Stylist Secrets to Looking & Feeling Your Best at 40 and Beyond includes 5 modules with videos, worksheets, and the option to add-on a discounted private consultation with me.

Hi Jill. Love your posts! Have a question—any suggestions for a wide/wider leg jean that’s not overwhelming for us petite ladies? Everything I’m seeing is so wide, it looks ridiculous on me. Thanks!!
Thank you for this extremely relatable post! Since covid, I’ve been yo-yo-ing 15 pounds back and forth. On my 5’2” frame - that translates to sizes 4p-10, and I’m most often on the way up or down, so it’s some size in between. Consequently, my closet is on any given day full of clothes that don’t fit and maybe one or two things that do. Add to that, at close to 60, no matter the weight, by the end of the day, my stomach looks pregnant, and pants that were loose in the morning are tight by the evening. Any suggestions on clothing and/or organization to avoid the inevitable time and frustration of figuring out what to wear?
