5 Tips for People that Hate to Shop
Shopping is frustrating and difficult and I don’t blame you if you hate it.
Although we have more choices than ever, shopping is frustrating and difficult and I don’t blame you if you hate it.
Here are my tips to make it easier!
Make a list.
I’m not saying you can’t stray from this list if you find something fabulous, but a list helps you stay focused on what you actually need. Have you ever gone to a fancy grocery store without a list? You likely emerged with lots of delicious cheese and other fun ingredients, but nothing with which to make a meal. It is the same with clothes shopping.
Psychologically prepare.
If you hate shopping, I know you probably just want to get in and get out, but unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. Prepare yourself that it’s going to take a little time. Bring a snack! Take a break! Try to fortify yourself so you’ll actually try things on and get different sizes when needed - basically, make the trip worth your time instead of getting frustrated and bailing when you don’t have success right away.
Utilize the salespeople.
Why are we always running away from retail salespeople when they ask us if we need help? They know their inventory best and can often help you to quickly find what you are looking for. Let them help you! Make nice with them and they may even tell you about an upcoming sale. ;)
Try things on.
You really need to try things on. How else will you know if it fits and flatters you? Just because you are a size 10 at one store does NOT mean you will be the same at another. I recently took a client shopping who is typically a size 14. At the end of the day we realized we had bought her items in sizes small, medium, large and extra large. You never know what is going to work, and it’s worth getting the fit just right.
Return what doesn’t work.
If, for some reason, you get something home and change your mind about it, please don’t let it clutter your closet! Return it and use your hard earned money on clothes you will actually wear, not garments that are hanging in your closet because you never got around to returning them. I know, it’s a PIA. I feel you. But if you try things on (see above) every time you shop, this will be less of a problem. :)
